MOVIE AND TELEVISION REVIEWS

ACTION

G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)

Starring: Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, Byung-hun Lee

Directed by: Jon M. Chu
Rating: PG-13
Run time: 110 minutes
Synopsis: The G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

The sequel to G.I. Joe is clearly better than the first movie. Less Channing Tatum helped things along as well as the addition of seasoned action stars like Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Let's face it; Channing Tatum is dull as a brick unless he's taking his clothes off. However, the changes couldn't help the overall result. Look into this one for some explosions and martial arts.

ACTION

Immortals (2011)

Starring: Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Luke Evans

Directed by: Tarsem Singh
Rating: R
Run time: 110 minutes
Synopsis: Theseus is a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion, who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.

If you enjoyed the style and look of 300, you'll like Immortals. Director Tarsem Singh is known for his visual style. You may remember those from The Cell (2000). The stunning visuals and toned bodies can't help the plot. There are some big plot holes that could have been filled in by simply reading the mythology that this film was based on. There was one big thing that annoyed me. Why were there only 5 instead of 12 Olympians?

Snitch (2013)

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Jon Bernthal, Susan Sarandon

Directed by: Ric Roman Waugh
Rating: PG-13
Run time: 112 minutes

Synopsis: A father goes undercover for the DEA in order to free his son who was imprisoned after being set up in drug deal.

Stupid kids should be learn from their mistakes. Instead, Dwayne Johnson jumps in to save his son by trying to set up drug dealers for the police. He sets aside his other child and wife to chase these criminals regardless of whether he gets himself killed. This was an average action flick that attempted to be more intelligent than others.
