E-Girls - Lesson 1

If you’re a fan of cute, happy, bubblegum pop, E-Girls is the group for you. Their first album opens with the upbeat and catchy, Follow Me. This song gets stuck in my head so easy every time I hear it. It really sets the tone for what I’ve come to expect from E-Girls. The songs vary from upbeat pop to soft ballads. There might be a bit too much saccharine for the casual listener. However, the music is all well produced which should be expected from EXILE’s sister group.

GACKT - P.S. I Love U

Former Malice Mizer frontman, Gackt, has released his 45th single. The title track is pretty, but ultimately, it brings nothing new if you’ve heard any of his ballads. Ride or Die follows the same pattern except with a heavier more rock sound. Gackt doesn’t attempt to stretch himself in any form with either of these songs. His die-hard fans will likely eat this release up as it’s more of what they’re expecting from him. The casual listener will long for something a bit more diverse from the former rocker.

jyA-Me - This Is. Me

I’d never heard of jyA-Me (pronounced as ‘yummy’) before being asked to review this release. The album reminds me of early Koda Kumi. jyA-Me’s voice is likely to attract fans of vocalists like Koda Kumi, Ayumi Hamasaki and Namie Amuro. Her music carries a similar style to those ladies. It’s a decent album for fans of dance influenced pop music. However, I do wonder whether she’s too similar to the ladies I mentioned. It’ll be interesting to see how she progresses once she gets a few more releases under her belt.
