When vocalist Sasa left J Soul Brothers in 2001, Hiro, Matsu, USA and Makidai continued on with two new vocalists, Atsushi and Shun under the name EXILE. Shun decided to leave in March 2006 to work on his solo career after twenty singles, one best of, a remix album and two albums. This left EXILE in search of another vocalist. In June 2006, dancer AKIRA joined the group followed by vocalist Takahiro in September. The new lineup seemed quite strong released two albums, three best albums and nine singles in the years that followed.

The seven member group remained stable until March 2009 when Hiro merged the seven members of Nidaime J Soul Brothers into EXILE to create the group's current lineup. The new members were Kenichi, Keiji, Tetsuya, Nesmith, Shokichi, Naoto and Naoki. This change to the lineup has only brought more dynamiacs to the group. They have since released three albums, one best album, fourteen singles, and four digital singles. EXILE's presence is also felt on television with seven television variety shows over the years.

There's more to EXILE than just pop songs. The group also has it's very own anime, Examurai Sengoku, which cast the members as Samurai. The anime later became a full length series with a manga following. Each member is involved in other projects. For example, Hiro is the CEO of LDH (Love, Dream & Happiness) entertainment agency which provides management services for a variety of artistes among other things. AKIRA is a successful actor most recently seen in the 2012 remake of Great Teacher Onizuka as well as Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou. There is no limit to what these talented men can achieve in various media once they set their minds to it.
