MSTR is best known as Chisato (千聖), the guitarist of the jrock band Penicillin. His solo career under the name Chisato (千聖) began in 1995. On June 6th, 2003, he created a hybrid music project called Crack6. The group required a name change to further distinguish it from his previous solo work and his participation in Penicillin, thus MSTR was born. The lineup has changed a few times over the years with the only stable members being MSTR, Shige Rocks and Jiro 6. Fans of Penicillin will recognize Jiro 6 as Penicillin's drummer O-Jiro.

 

The project has gone through a few hiatus periods over the years with Chisato focusing on his work with Penicillin. Each release has made me more of a fan. There's a diversity to the band's sound that won't leave you with the 'heard one song, heard them all' feeling. Hybrid music project is actually the best way to describe them. Aside from the obvious rock influences, there's metal, dance, pop and even some rap elements in the mix. Unlike some guitarists, Chisato's vocals aren't stressed or forced. There's an effortless feel to them that really suits the music.
