Hakuei - Double Love Shock/True Love

Hakuei has had many projects over the years, but his solo effort was likely the most interesting outside of PENICILLIN. Double Love Shock features his uaul pitchy vocals paired with guitar riffs and a trippy vibe. It could have easily been a track for PENICILLIN instead. True Love slows things down for a light ballad with more stable vocals. He tones down his singing style a bit here for a softer sound. Ballads suit his range a bit better than faster songs do.

Konig - Deep Throat

Fans of Sugar were happy to hear that former frontman, Loki, would be continuing with a solo project. This mini album certainly wasn't a disappointment. His vocals are as polished as they were in Sugar. Surprisingly, there wasn't a single song I disliked on this mini album. If you enjoy Loki's gothic stylings and deep voice, then you're certainly going to want to listen to this one.

Vaniru - Cosmic Night

Vaniru's sound reminds me of early 1980s groups like Duran Duran and A Flock of Seagulls. The electro-synth pop rock sound brings up thoughts of big hair and trippy videos. Leoneil's voice is a bit reminiscent of Buck-Tick's Atsushi Sakuai. His look also lends to that comparison. Overall, the single isn't bad. It's simply not that memorable.
